keeping cozy.

There's supposed to be a huge snow storm tomorrow. We're expecting anything between 2-6 inches of snow. For North Carolina, anything above an inch is a big deal. I've been staying warm, drinking lots of hot chocolate and tea. (The hot chocolate pictured is actually ganache-based drinking chocolate from French Broad, and it is so divine.)

I've also been fighting a cold for the past couple of weeks, so I've been trying really hard lately to balance taking things easy and getting plenty of stuff done. This semester so far has been all about that similar sort of balance between work and play. I'm hopeful I can flex this balancing muscle and learn how to cultivate balance every day of my life from here on out.

It snowed here in Asheville the other day. Like an all-day, over-an-inch kind of snow that's still on the ground as I type this. Classes were cancelled both Tuesday and Wednesday, so I drank hot chocolate and then ventured out with a few friends to take photos and walk around campus. Snow in the mountains is truly a magical thing. It definitely made my January one of the most beautiful ones I've ever seen.

I know it's been a while since I've posted.

It snowed today and I ate chicken noodle soup.

I'm still loving my new lens.

I am also loving 2014 and this semester. I can't use the excuse of not having time to blog, because I've actually had a lot of free time, especially in comparison to last semester. I'm adjusting to slowing down and having plenty of time to do homework and get other things done. It's nice, and luckily my classes are interesting enough that I'm not bored.

Hopefully this semester I can really give this space the attention it deserves. I'd also love to revamp everything now that I have some design experience under my belt. We'll see. ;)

Also, I'm obsessed with these bowls.

I went home for the weekend and it snowed for the first time in a long time.
I ate way too many Girl Scout cookies and got completely caught up on the second season of GIRLS.
It was wonderful.

These pictures are from a night where Lonnie and I went out to eat at this place called Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack. We got fried pickles and I got chicken and waffles and everything was delicious. We went back to his house as snow was starting to fall outside. I had a very cuddly kitty following me around, and I learned how to play poker.

These pictures aren't the best but the night was.
A lot of little things seem to be falling into place and I'm in a really good place right now.
I'm happy.

settled back in.

I am back in Asheville after a long, wonderful, and much needed Winter Break. I don't have much to show except for some bits and pieces from my dorm room because it's been raining nonstop since the day I got back. I love the rain. I love rainy days. I love sitting in my room and not having to put any music on because the pitter patter of the rain drops is enough. However, I think the lack of sun is starting to wear everyone on campus (including myself) down more and more every day.
Luckily, all of this rain is supposed to turn into snow tonight, but I guess we'll see. Apparently higher elevations take all the snow from Asheville, so no one is expecting us to actually get any. As a North Carolina native, I'm pretty used to the rumor of snow and the disappointment of not getting any. Despite that, there's still this energy in the air as everyone on campus hopes deep down inside that classes are cancelled tomorrow.
Other than the weather, I am all settled into my room. My Health and Wellness professor was talking about "Environmental Health" and how we should take into consideration the space in which we live and whether or not it works for us as students. I'd like to think that my room really works for me and is a space that makes me feel good. It's something I really strive to create and take care of. I'm happy that I can be living in two different locations and have both feel equally like home.
Other than that:
1. With unpacking, I have realized that my collection of jars is getting a little excessive.
2. My tea collection is also getting a bit excessive. Guess this means I'll have to drink plenty of it this winter!
3. I am aware that I do have a wonderful view of the parking lot. It comes along with living on the first floor.
4. I am on such a creative high right now and I don't want it to go away. The first day of classes is a great time to realize that there is so much I don't know and so much I want to learn. I want to get my hands on everything right now. I've been journaling and sketching and aching for some projects. We'll see if this lasts.
